COR: A medical check-up turned into a fun adventure
A smart interactive station that makes measuring children's vitals a game with "Captain Cardo" — more accurate automatic readings, a reassured child, and results delivered straight to the hospital system.
The challenge
Measuring children's vital signs in clinics and hospitals is stressful for everyone: a frightened child cries and moves, blurring the readings; nursing staff spend double the time; and parents are anxious. For children with autism, a loud, unfamiliar environment can be a barrier that prevents the exam altogether.
The solution
An interactive check-up station led by its hero "Captain Cardo" — a cheerful heart character on an AI-powered touchscreen who guides the child through an adventure. Along the way, vital signs are measured automatically and sent straight to the hospital system with no manual entry. For children with autism, a dedicated calm mode offers softer lighting, muted sounds, and a slower pace.
How it works
- Welcome: Captain Cardo greets the child and invites them on a fun "mission" on screen.
- Guided play: The adventure steps are designed so the child naturally adopts the right positions for measurement.
- Automatic measurement: Sensors capture the vitals while the child is busy playing, so readings come out more accurate.
- Integration: Results are sent instantly to the hospital records system and shown to the medical staff.
The impact
A reassuring experience
The exam shifts from a source of fear to a moment the child looks forward to.
More accurate readings
A calm, still child means reliable vital readings on the first try.
Less staff time
Measurement and data entry happen automatically, freeing nurses for what matters most.
Inclusive for all
Calm mode opens the door to a comfortable exam for children with autism.
